History Through the Ages
This project is an exploration of how current ideas and trends were created and their evolution into their current state. Students will choose a topic that interests them (cosmetics, media, sports, fashion trends...etc...) and trace it back to its origin. In a short essay, they will provide an outline of its progression to how it is in current society. Then, they will partner up and create an artifact of the topic (makeup, soccer ball, accessory...etc...) to present.
What is the progression of a certain trend in history? How did that affect society?
This project will combine history, research, and writing to give students an understanding of a specific topic (of their choice).
This project will provide skills that include essay writing practice, collaboration, and effective research habits.
A historian could guest lecture to give the students a basic understanding of the items that they are creating and the history involved.
The product of this project will be an artifact that shows their idea in a different time period. Students will work together to create a functional representation of their topic and how it has changed over time.
Their products may be exhibited along with their essays at an exhibition for their classmates and parent.
They will be assessed based on how their essay was written (50%-grammar errors, flow, information...etc...) and their final product (50%- accurate, aesthetically pleasing...etc...).
We start with some research. The teacher spends the first day teaching an overview lesson about thousands of years ago when these things were first becoming popular. At the end of the lesson, the students say which parts most interest them, or choose a different but similar topic to talk about. They do individual research using reputable sources. They each write a short, informational essay about their subject. Their research is done by Wednesday and their essay is completed by Friday. In class on Friday, they will partner up with someone who has similar interests to them and choose an artifact to create. Some people will try to make usable cosmetics or armor or weapons. They have the weekend to begin getting items that they need. They will spend Monday planning and then get their things together by Tuesday to have a finished product by Friday.

I am proud of many things this semester. I am glad that I still have all A's and I hope that I can keep that until the end of the semester.
